The Final Plays By Arthur Schnitzler Translation and Afterword by G.J. Weinberger

This volume contains the last three dramas written by Schnitzler. The first work, In the Play of Summer Breezes, was the last of his plays to be published and performed during his lifetime. The remaining two works The Word and Procession of Shades troubled Schnitzler, and even though he worked on them for over twenty years, he remained unsatisfied and would not approve their publication. These posthumous plays provide variations on a number of his favorite subjects and fit into the thematic progression of his work. These plays are important works, because they add further thematic dimensions to his artistic range and thus enrich our understanding of Schnitzler as a man and writer.
