"Walter Sorell, born in 1905 in Vienna, was a multifaceted talent who devoted himself to a lifelong quest for the poetic in life, for beauty and love. He emigrated to the United States in 1939 and worked as a book reviewer and translator. In 1948 he headed the Dance Department at the Theater Workshop of Erwin Piscator and soon made an international name for himself as a writer and critic on dance.
The more than twenty books that he has written include a number of works on dance as well as several plays, novels, and poems."
