Fritz Hochwaelder (1911-1986) was a popular and respected dramatist in postwar Austria because of the serious moral issues he presents. The Holy Experiment recalls the Jesuit civilization in Paraguay and the forced abandonment of this noble experiment. In 1003 a writer creates a modern Don Juan, attempting to change him into a moral person — with disastrous results. A police detective in The Order is assigned to investigate a forgotten war crime, only to discover that he was the perpetrator. Another character must decide by Thursday if he will choose a life of pleasure at the expense of his soul.
