Der Herr Karl By Helmut Qualtinger and Carl Merz
Helmut Qualliger (1928-1986) was an Austrian author and actor, famous for his 1950's cabaret texts and roles. In 1961, he embodies Herr Karl on Austrian television followed by performances on stage throughout Europe and on Broadway. In 1961, international journalists accredited in Vienna voted him "most popular Austrian of the year." He achieved further acclaim in the 1970's for his dramatic readings of Hitler's Mein Kampf and the works of Karl Kraus.
Carl Merz (1906-1979) was an Austrian author and actor. In 1952, he joined the "Namenloses Ensemble" (The Nameless Team), a cabaret group founded by Gerhard Bronner that brought together Michael Kehlmann, Qualtinger, Bronner and Merz. This creative team (later joined by Georg Kreisler and Louise Martini) wrote and performed a series of successful cabaret shows for the stage, radio and television, before Qualtinger and Merz broke off on their own to write Der Herr Karl.
