Memories with Trees By Ilse Tielsch, Translation and Afterword by David Scrase

Driving to a professional conference in 1974, Anna by chance happens upon the farmhouse in which, as a fifteen-year-old girl, she spent the late spring and summer of 1945 after fleeing from her home town in Czechoslovakia. Memories and long forgotten scenes and events come flooding back. She is thus forced to come to terms with the events themselves, as well as with the nature of memory.
Often compared with Proust, Tielsch has given us a deep and subtle commentary on the events and fateful happenings of those months in 1945.
