Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Perspectives from His Correspondence By Gloria Kaiser, Translated by Lowell A. Bangerter

The world is familiar with Mozart the composer, but in his private life he lived a variety of other roles: husband, father, son, and cousin, among others. The intent of Gloria Kaiser’s edited and adapted collection of excerpts from his personal correspondence is to present an intimate creative revelation of Mozart the man from perspectives other than the one from which he is commonly viewed. Within that representation of a great, yet tragic existence, the famous composer emerges as a human being whose emotions and experiences are not far removed from our own.
Gloria Kaiser was born in Köflach, Styria in 1950. As a representative of the Austrian government with responsibilities for cultural exchange between Austria and Brazil, she spends much of her time in her second homeland. Her novels translated into English include Dona Leopoldina (1998), Pedro II of Brazil (2000), and Saudade. The Life and Death of Queen Maria Glória of Lusitania (2005). A member of the PEN organization and the Austrian literary group Forum Stadtpark, she has been awarded numerous literary prizes.
Lowell A. Bangerter, Professor of German at the University of Wyoming, has written extensively about Austrian writers and their works. In addition to the three novels by Gloria Kaiser he has translated works by Ernst Bruckmüller, Jeannie Ebner, Janko Ferk, Alexander Giese, Margarete Glas-Larsson, Norbert Gstrein, Marie-Thérèse Kerschbaumer, Anna Mitgutsch, HansWeigel and Stefan Zweig for Ariadne Press.
